Just a Few Thoughts...

I stumbled across these quotes that I jotted down shortly after Dad died. They were very encouraging to me once again and I just wanted to share them with you. Maybe they are needful for someone to read today.

"Faith is DEPENDENCE upon God. And this God-dependence only begins when self-dependence ends. And self-dependence only comes to its end, with some of us, when sorrow, suffering, affliction, broken plans and hopes bring us to that place of self-help-lessness and defeat. And only then do we find that we have learned the lesson of faith; to find our tiny craft of life rushing onward to a blessed victory of life and power and service undreamt of in the days of our fleshly strength and self-reliance." [James McConkey]

"It is a great thing to LEARN faith: that is, simple dependence upon God. It will comfort you much to be assured that the Lord is teaching you dependence upon Himself, and it is very remarkable that faith is necessary in EVERYTHING. 'The just shall live by faith,' not only in your circumstances, but in everything. I believe the Lord allows many things to happen on purpose to make us feel our need of Him. The more you find Him in your sorrows or wants, the more you will be attached to Him and drawn away from this place where the sorrows are, to Him in the place where He is." "Set your affection on things above" (Colossians 3:2a). [J.B.Stoney]

"...we cannot trust anyone further than we know him." [Miles Stanford]

By the way, these quotes were taken from Miles J Stanford's book The Complete Green Letters. You can read some of his works here. They are very good!

Such great thoughts Brooke. I have read that book, so very good. I'm glad that you have found some comfort in the midst of sorrow. I can't imagine how you and your family do it. Praise the Lord for His love and care.

Thanks for sharing these words, Brooke. I've been thinking recently along the same lines...about what it means to really trust the Lord..you know, when the rubber hits the road. As I've looked at verses on trusting, I've realized that it is often connected with protection and deliverance and a place of refuge; it is connected with the mercy of the Lord, blessing and praise; also hope, fullness, satisfaction, the fear of the Lord! And that barely touches the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the amazing "benefits" of trusting the Lord! Praying that we can truly trust the Lord with our lives today!

Thank you for these encouraging words. It is so good to be reminded that trials are an opportunity to cling to the Lord in faith trusting Him fully with our lives. It is so true that everything requires faith and if we don't have it we so easily fall into wrong thinking. Thank you again for sharing these quotes! They were a great encouragement to me.
